Spain and Argentina earned their places


Spain are no longer just a possession team. They shut France out completely, which is something very few teams have managed this tournament.

Argentina know how to win the biggest games. They don't always dominate, but they have that championship mentality and seem to find another gear in knockout football.

So... who wins now?

If you had asked me before the semifinals, I would have said France. Tuesday last week I said Spain!

Today? I'm changing my prediction to Argentina.

Here's why:

  • Argentina have grown stronger every knockout match.
  • They have experience in finals and don't panic under pressure.
  • They seem comfortable winning ugly if they have to.

That said, Spain have been the most impressive footballing side over the last two rounds. If they control possession the way they did against France and keep Argentina chasing shadows, they absolutely can lift the trophy.

My final call

Argentina 2 – 1 Spain (possibly after extra time)

Win probability (my view):

  • Argentina: 55%
  • Spain: 45%

So now I'm cheering against my own original prediction. 😂 That's football—it humbles everyone.

If Spain does get it, it will be Spain 2- Argentina 1

Again this one has even me mind boggled!
