Kind but Not Nice: Love, Business, and the Power of Intentional Relationships

Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of love—roses, chocolates, and sweet words wrapped in ribbons of affection. But beyond the romance, there’s a deeper lesson about relationships, not just in love but in business and life: the difference between being kind and being nice.

For years, I used to believe that being “nice” was the way to build strong connections—whether with partners, friends, employees, or customers. But I learned that niceness is often surface-level; kindness, on the other hand, is intentional, honest, and built to last.

Love and Business Have More in Common Than You Think

Great relationships—whether in love or business—aren’t about constant agreement or avoiding discomfort. They thrive on:

💡 Honest Communication – Just as a successful business doesn’t thrive on false promises, neither do relationships. Saying what needs to be said, even when it’s uncomfortable, is a form of true kindness.

💡 Consistency Over Grand Gestures – In both love and business, it’s not about the one-time flashy moments. It’s about showing up every day with integrity and intention.

💡 Knowing When to Walk Away – Not every deal is a good deal, just like not every relationship is meant to last. Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is walk away from what isn’t serving you—whether it’s a toxic work environment, a bad investment, or a relationship that no longer aligns with your values.

This Valentine’s Day, Choose Intentionality

Instead of just focusing on gifts and gestures, reflect on the quality of your relationships. Are they built on real connection and honesty? Do they empower and uplift you?

Be kind, not just nice. Say what you mean. Invest in relationships—romantic or professional—that truly matter. And most importantly, don’t wait for a special day to show appreciation; kindness, like success, is a daily practice.

Happy Valentine’s Day to those building love, businesses, and legacies with intention! ❤️
